Prior to the formation of the Arts Council, a component of the State’s Three Star Program, Perry County lacked any organization charged specifically with advocating and promoting the arts.  On August 20, 2007, the Perry County Arts Council requested the Perry County Commission appoint a committee, an arm of the county government and thus eligible to apply for grants, to serve as the governing board for the Arts Council.  Resolution 20070802 passed unanimously, and the Perry County Arts Committee (PCAC) was established.

The Perry County Arts Committee

  • augments funding for the arts through grant writing;
  • promotes workshops, exhibitions, performances, and productions of artistic and cultural value;
  • coordinates artistic and cultural activities, including, but not limited to, literary, musical, theatrical, and visual arts, and such other cultural activities of value to the people of Perry County; and
  • works toward an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation to foster a sense of community among the artist who work, live, and teach in Perry County.
